Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Troops 2 Truckers?

Troops 2 Truckers™ (T2T) is an on-base training program that seeks to train and credential service members for a career in the transportation and logistics industry. Marines, soldiers, and sailors will earn their Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements (doubles, triples, hazmat, and tanker). Following completion of the program, our placement services professionals will also provide you with job placement opportunities if you need and want assistance (which includes developing your resume and preparing you for interviews).
  • How does Troops 2 Truckers work?

Troops 2 Truckers is under contract with a number of top Transportation and Logistics companies who have demonstrated real support and understanding of the needs of transitioning servicemen and women. T2T's program eliminates post-service uncertainty - you will be trained, licensed, and employed prior to your EAS (should you choose to accept the job offer). The main difference between T2T and a truck driving school is our output - we deliver jobs...trucking schools deliver diplomas.
  • What does no "out of pocket" really mean?

No cost to you means our courses are covered 100% via military tuition assistance entitlement. Our programs are operated in conjunction with our partners, Central Texas College & InovaTech - College of Business and Technology. Upon enrollment, our staff will provide you with the necessary Tuition Assistance forms to be completed, signed by your Command, and submitted to your Base Education Office for approval.

The Tuition Assistance entitlement provided to you by the Department of Defense generally requires that you possess a GT Score of 100 or above (Active Duty and Reservists). For Marines, you will also have to attend a College 101 briefing. If you are a National Guardsman you will receive Tuition Assistance based on slightly different criteria, but again we will assist you through the entire process. Should you have any questions, please notify a Troop Transition, Student Admissions Representative.

  • How does the applicaton process work?

After completing the on-line registration, candidates will receive an email confirming their registration.

You'll then be contacted by a Student Admissions Representative who will work with you to find an available and convenient class, while assisting you with completing the required forms.

Upon course completion, and at the request of the candidate, a Placement Specialist will work directly with you towards securing employment in the transportation and logistics industry.

  • What is Tuition Assistance?

Tuition Assistance is a Department of Defense benefit that you may draw from while serving on active duty. It exists in order to help you with career and educational opportunities and serves as a "use or lose" benefit. You do not pay into Tuition Assistance (as you previously did with your MGIB account) and once you qualify for and receive funding, you must successfully complete the course with a passing grade. Our Student Admissions Representatives are standing by to assist you and help you process Tuition Assistance requests.
  • What is my GT Score?

Your GT Score is a measurement of your Verbal Expression (VE) and Arithmetic Reasoning (AR) skills as assessed by the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. Your test score measures your General Technical abilities and will help determine your access to Tuition Assistance dollars.
  • How can I qualify for Tuition Assistance with a GT Score below 100 points?

For Marines and sailors, you can now qualify for Tuition Assistance by taking the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) at Base Education Centers aboard Camps Pendleton or Lejeune. The test has a two-hour completion time and you will receive your test results the very same day. Once you have successfully completed the TABE, you will be eligible for Tuition Assistance.

For soldiers, contact your education centers for more details.

  • Who is eligible for the program?

Troops 2 Truckers is designed for Reservists, National Guardsmen, and Active Duty servicemen and women.
  • Where is your program offered?

Our program is currently offered at Camp Pendleton, CA. Other bases coming soon!
  • What type of jobs/careers can I find?

A cornerstone to the program is the job diversity that we offer - from city driver (known as Pickup and Delivery), to line haul, to long haul/sleeper teams. And if you're thinking about supervisory or entry level management jobs, we're gearing up to bring on dispatchers, warehouse supervisors, even terminal managers.
  • Will I need to sign a contract?

Never. Even if you chose another career, even if you give this a try and decide that being a professional truck driver is not for you...we will never ask you to sign a contract, nor will our employers.

Troops 2 Truckers delivers a no-strings-attached job offer... it's up to you to accept the offer. We do seek your commitment to the program - to satisfactorily complete the course within the allocated schedule and should you accept a job offer, our sincere hope is that you'll invest the same commitment and discipline as you did during your active duty service. We know that truck driving is demanding, but certainly no tougher than what you've been through. We also know that two years into this career, you'll have the scheduling flexibility and earning power that will make a lasting difference to you and your family.

  • Are disabled veterans able to enroll?

YES! There are some practical issues that must be addressed, however, our partners will never restrict your ability to work hard, contribute to the company, and earn a great living. Troops 2 Truckers is committed to ALL servicemen and women.
  • What about my experience and driving history?

We expect and understand that you will not have any experience. Furthermore, your personal safety is most important to us and we strive to create the safest possible environment for you, your employer, and all other drivers on the road. That is why we have spent so much time and resources creating the best course curriculum in the trucking industry, taught by some of the most qualified professionals. Our placement services professionals can answer any questions about your driving record as it relates to job placement. Please note, a poor driving or criminal record, or the inability to pass our driving standards test can impact your ability to secure employment.
  • I already have my CDL, can you still find me a job?

The honest answer is MAYBE. We will have to screen your background and check your skill level. We enforce a rigid quality control method that is designed to reduce risk - to keep unsafe drivers off the road. Having a CDL does not mean that you are a safe driver. A poor driving record, a criminal background, or the inability to pass our driving standards test can eliminate you from consideration. In some cases, we will re-train you, and should you succeed in meeting our employment standards, the program may assist you with employment. This option is at the sole discretion of our employment partners. But, don't hesitate to ask...
  • When can I start?

If our class is at maximum capacity, we will do our best to schedule you for the next available class. Please check our Schedule for more information.
